Event Details
The training for the NCAST PCI (Parent-Child Interaction) Feeding & Teaching Scales, which are widely used measures for observing and assessing parent-child interaction, is being offered in Auckland in August 2017 by Sarah Haskell and Heidi Pace. Heidi and Sarah are certified NCAST Parent-Child Interaction Instructors through the University of Washington. This training is relevant to a range of health, mental health, and education professionals who work with families with infants and toddlers. It is not only for those who work in the area of Infant Mental Health. Rather, NCAST PCI Scales can be used in a number of ways and they allow professionals to assess both the dyad’s strengths and vulnerabilities. The NCAST scales are more than a one-time assessment. The scales can be used as an assessment only tool or as a way to inform an intervention plan with the family and assist the clinician in offering anticipatory guidance, instructional feedback and/or psycho-education. The scales offer the opportunity to find the portals of entry with the dyad, validating the positive attributes of the interaction, while allowing the opportunity to explore concerning issues. Part of the training is how to utilise the information gleaned from the scales to facilitate the enrichment of the relationship and promotion of the child's developmental agenda.
The training is suitable for professionals including psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, speech-language therapists, dietitians, paediatricians, psychiatrists, social workers, physiotherapists, and Early Intervention Education teachers.
