Interventions for young people experiencing psychosis
Given all the interest in prevention and early intervention for psychosis, what do we currently know about how likely it is for young people presenting with symptoms to progress to full-blown psychosis and how effective are interventions at preventing this transition? This review identifies that 22% of those with symptoms develop psychosis within 3 years, especially if they present with severe attenuated symptoms, negative symptoms and low functioning. Although no interventions have been shown to be particularly effective at limiting this transition, the authors recommend needs based and psychological approaches are offered.
