Prevalence and Correlates of Suicide and Nonsuicidal Self-injury in Children
A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
This systematic review and meta-analysis of 58 studies found that the lifetime prevalence of suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and nonsuicidal self-injury were 15.1%, 2.6%, and 6.2%, respectively, in community samples. The lifetime prevalence of suicide was 0.79 per 1 million children in the general population. Male sex, child maltreatment, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and depression were associated with risk, whereas parental support was found to possibly be protective against suicidal ideation
