This study of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), anti-anxiety medication (Sertraline, a type of serotonin-specific reuptake inhibitor (SSRI)) and a combination of these treatment found that combined therapy was better than each approach in the short-term, but not the long term. Unfortunately, as young people with significant depressive symptoms were excluded, the results of this study should be cautiously generalised to people with mixed presentations who are seen by Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
