Despite enthusiasm for the prospect of treatment being guided by pharmacogenomics rather than clinical judgement, this randomised controlled trial showed that there was no clinical benefit from this new approach. Whether this is related to current pharmacogenomic techniques or other reasons remains to be confirmed.
