Sturman N, Deckx L, van Driel ML. Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2017 Nov 21;11:CD011144. doi: 10.1002/14651858.CD011144.pub2. (Review) PMID: 29159857
This Cochrane review of methylphenidate use in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) identified four studies showing that stimulant medication improves symptoms of hyperactivity and inattention and that it is well tolerated, at least in the short-term. Methylphenidate did not alter core symptoms of ASD, stereotypical behaviours or social interaction.
