Clinical and cost-effectiveness of the Lightning Process in addition to specialist medical care for paediatric chronic fatigue syndrome: randomised controlled trial
Crawley E, Gaunt D, Garfield K, et al. Archives of Disease in Childhood Published Online First: 20 September 2017. doi: 10.1136/archdischild-2017-313375
This is the first randomised controlled trial of the Lightening Process in 14-26 year olds. It shows that the combination of Lightening Process and specialist medical care resulted in better functional improvement than specialist medical care alone. Only a subset of participants were actually randomised despite the title of the article and differences between the two groups were greater when multiple imputation was used to complete data gaps. Although providing some indication about the promise of the Lightening Process, further studies conducted with greater rigour are necessary before it can be concluded that the Lightening Process is an effective treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome.
