This long-term follow-up of a randomised controlled trial including 516 Mexican American adolescents found that a 9-week middle school intervention significantly reduced the likelihood of developing an alcohol use disorder five years later. Although the intervention did not lead to a reduction in binge drinking, the authors of this trial state that their results support the introduction of universal preventative interventions with middle school students.
