Emotion regulation strategies modulate the effect of adverse childhood experiences on perceived chronic stress with implications for cognitive flexibility

This interesting study demonstrates how different emotion regulation strategies can mitigate the chronic perceived stress associated with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Habitual use of cognitive reappraisal attenuated stress levels, while habitual use of expressive suppression increased them. Caregivers and clinicians may be able to support children to increase the former rather than the latter.
