This paper describes how a novel 8-week video-based therapy that includes self-monitoring, stimulus-fading and reinforcement behavioural techniques, can be effective in treating selective mutism in children aged 8 years. Further evaluation of the therapy is needed, but it could offer a promising new tool for therapists dealing with this historically difficult to treat issue.
