Werbart Törnblom, A., Sorjonen, K., Runeson, B. and Rydelius, P.‐A. (2020), Who Is at Risk of Dying Young from Suicide and Sudden Violent Death? Common and Specific Risk Factors among Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults. Suicide Life Threat Behav. doi:10.1111/sltb.12614
It is common for people to wonder whether some risk factors are more important than others when accounting for youth suicide. This study included 436 psychological autopsy interviews with next of kin and found that the only common risk factor for suicide was the number of recent stressful life events. In comparison, youth who died from non-suicidal sudden violent death were more likely to have histories of lower academic achievement and substance abuse.
