This training is organised by the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health in the UK.
This full-day training is the equivalent of 6 hours CPD training and is suitable for those work with, or have an interest in, the management and support for children and young people with an ADHD diagnosis. It is ideal for those who are in either a clinical or non-clinical role.

The ‘Essentials Series’
This CPD training day is part of ACAMH’s ‘Essentials Series’. The ‘Essentials Series’ aims to introduce people from a wide range of professions, to different mental health topics in a comprehensive, but digestible, format. They are interactive sessions, led by renowned experts in the field who reference the latest research, examples of good practice, and discuss specific cases, to give you a fuller understanding of the topic.
About the day
The day will consist of a series of lectures and interactive question and answer sessions on:
- The definition and diagnostic criteria of ADHD
- The epidemiology of ADHD
- The clinical characteristics of ADHD
- Diagnosis (including differential diagnosis) of ADHD
- Introduction to the neurobiology and genetics of ADHD
- The treatment of ADHD
- Overview of available treatment options and guidelines
- Management of ADHD treatment in CAMHS
- Case discussions (delegates are invited to submit a case of discussion in advance or on the day)

About the Speakers
Dr Samuele Cortese, MD, PhD, Associate Professor at the University of Southampton and Honorary Consultant with Solent NHS Trust.
Samuele Cortese, MD, PhD, is a child psychiatrist, trained in Italy, France, and in the United States. He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton and Honorary Consultant with Solent NHS Trust. He is also Adjunct Associate Professor with the New York University (NYU).Dr Cortese’s main research interest are around the epidemiology, neurobiology and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, in particular ADHD, as well as on sleep disorders in children and adolescents. He has published more than 120 peer review papers (H index: 39).
Dr Cortese sits on the editorial board of several journals in the field of child mental health, including JCPP, JAACAP, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders, CNS Drugs, Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology and Evidence Based Mental Health. Dr Cortese is a member of the European ADHD Guidelines Group and acts as the ACAMH Branch Liaison Officer.
Dr Nicoletta Adamo, MD, Honorary Consultant with SLaM NHS Trust
Nicoletta Adamo, MD, is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who completed her medical and speciality training in Italy and worked as a researcher at the New York University (USA) and at the University of Heidelberg (Germany). She then worked as a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist at the NHS CAMHS in Tayside, Dundee (UK) and is currently Honorary Consultant with SLaM NHS Trust (Neuropsychiatry and Service for Complex Autism & Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders), while undertaking her PhD programme at the King’s College London.
Dr Adamo’s main research interests are around the neurobiology, cognition and treatment of ADHD, as well as on the neurobiology underlying the co-morbidity of ADHD with other neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders. She has also recently collaborated in projects evaluating evidence-based treatments for ADHD.
Dr Adamo has served as a peer reviewer for several journals in the field of child mental health, including JCPP, BJPsych, and the American Journal of Medical Genetics. She has taught in master and clinical courses on ADHD organized by the British Association of Psychopharmacology (BAP) and the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP).
